Most of itg’s sensors are basically of amperometric nature to measure toxic gases such as NO, NO2, SO2,CO and H2S. By using a 3-electrode design the sensors do not contain any RoSH relevant substances at all.
Unlike the 3 electrode design galvanic oxygen sensors are using 2 electrodes only whereas the counter-electrode is usually made of lead. Lead, however is listed in the RoHS regulation to be a hazardous substance and is supposed to be banned from the sensor market in the foreseeable future.
For quite some time itg offers lead-free oxygen sensors in various fields of application and can, in this regard, look back on many years of experiences with environmental friendly “green” sensors.
In doing so it turned out that next to the RoHS compliances, additional advantages due to lead-free have been obtained. Especially the lifetime, drift (degradation) of the output signal, response time of the leadfree sensors as well as their linearity has been improved by leaving off lead.
